Make a Joyful Noise

All the earth is called to make a joyful noise to the LORD, to serve him with gladness, and to come before him with singing. This summons is grounded in the knowledge that the LORD is God: he made his people, they belong to him, and they are the sheep of his pasture.

A1 Psalm of thanksgiving. 2Serve the LORD with gladness; 3Know that the LORD is God.

The psalm then calls worshipers to enter God's gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise, blessing his name as they draw near. The reason is simple and sufficient: the LORD is good, his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness continues to every generation.

4Enter His gates with thanksgiving 5For the LORD is good,

Section summaryThe psalm opens by summoning all the earth to shout for joy to the LORD, serve him gladly, and come before him with songs. It then anchors that joy in theological certainty: the LORD is God, he made his people, and they are his sheep under his care. The final movement calls worshipers to enter his gates and courts with thanksgiving and praise, because the LORD is good and his steadfast love and faithfulness extend through every generation.
Role in the chapterThis section serves as a compact theology of worship. It joins joyful praise to covenant identity and shows that gratitude rests on the enduring character of God rather than on changing circumstance.
