Atomic Bible is a calm, scrollable Bible with the study built in. It is for anyone, whether you are opening it for the first time or have read it for decades.

Who made this

Shawn Hansen, in Reno, Nevada. He leads a Bible study that meets on Tuesday nights and is working through Hebrews a chapter a week. The group needed something they could read on their own during the week and then talk about together on Tuesday. Nothing quite fit, so this got built.

That is the whole origin story. It is a small thing made for a handful of people, and you are welcome to use it.

How it works

It is one screen: the Bible, a chapter at a time, opening where you left off. A short card at the top of a chapter says what to know before you read, where one is written, and who's who closes every chapter. One switch sets the Greek or Hebrew under the English.

  • Tap a verse to highlight it, save it, copy it or share it, and to see its words, threads and voices. In Hebrews, a dot by a verse number means there is a note on it.
  • Swipe sideways to turn the chapter.
  • Tap search to go to a reference like “jn 3:16”, find a word, or say what you are going through.

AI helps write some of what is here, because it lets a small project do what used to take a team. The study notes are drafted with AI and approved by Shawn. Other AI written text, like the short articles on people and places, is shown with a label saying so. The Bible text itself is always the BSB, word for word.

The Gospel, in plain words

God made you and He is good. We have all gone our own way instead of His, and that separates us from Him. We cannot fix it by trying harder, because the problem is not a score we are behind on. It is a relationship we broke.

So God came Himself. Jesus, the Son, lived the life we did not live and died the death we had coming. He was buried, and on the third day He rose. Hebrews puts it this way: “After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:3 BSB). The work was finished.

What is left for you is to trust Him. Turn around, tell Him the truth, and take what He is holding out. It is a gift, not wages. If you want to start there and do not know how, say it plainly in your own words. He is not hard to reach, and He is not keeping you at the door.

Then find people. That is the second half of the tagline. You were not meant to carry this alone, and for most of us that is the part that takes the most courage. Read alone, grow together.

Your privacy

No accounts or analytics. There is nothing to sign up for and no email asked for. No analytics follow you, there are no advertising pixels, and no third party scripts load while you read. Your place, your highlights, your saved verses, your theme and your text size live in this browser's local storage.

Songs and explainers are available with selected chapters and on the Music page. Songs load a YouTube player only when you tap to play. That connects to YouTube, which has its own privacy policy. Nothing loads from YouTube before you tap.

The flip side: clear your browser data and your highlights go with it. Open the site on another phone and it starts fresh. That is the cost of keeping it yours.

Put it on your home screen

It works offline once it is installed, so the chapters you have read are there with no signal. No app store, no download.

Credits

Scripture is the Berean Standard Bible (BSB). The BSB is dedicated to the public domain, free to use and free to share. It was produced by the Berean Bible translation team and made available at bereanbible.com. Every verse quoted in the study notes is checked word for word against that text.

The Greek and Hebrew under the English and in the word cards come from the Berean interlinear tables, also public domain. Greek word meanings come from Abbott-Smith’s Manual Greek Lexicon of the New Testament (1922), and Hebrew ones from entries based on Brown Driver Briggs, both through the STEPBible brief lexicons by Tyndale House Cambridge (STEPBible.org, CC BY 4.0). We simplified its formatting and changed nothing else.

People and places come from TIPNR, STEPBible's list of every person and place in the Bible with all their references (Tyndale House Cambridge, CC BY 4.0): names, family links, references, and short articles drafted by an AI model, labeled as AI written where they appear. What each name means is from Hitchcock's Bible Names (1869), and the dictionary entries are from Easton's Bible Dictionary (1897), both public domain, from CrossWire, shown as written.

Voices are the church's older commentators, in public domain editions, shown as they wrote them: John Chrysostom, John Calvin, Matthew Henry, John Wesley, Albert Barnes, Charles Spurgeon and Jamieson, Fausset and Brown. They come from the Free Use Bible API, CrossWire, the Historical Christian Faith commentaries database and Project Gutenberg. They speak from their own times, and showing them is not agreeing with every word.

Cross references in Threads are from OpenBible.info (CC BY), ranked by reader votes.

Search by meaning uses potion-base-8M by Minish Lab (MIT), a small open model that runs on your device. It only finds BSB verses and never writes a word. What you type there never leaves your device.
