Chapter 31

Into Your Hands I Commit My Spirit

This psalm entrusts life entirely to the LORD, asking for rescue, guidance, and deliverance from nets, enemies, and shame. It moves through confidence, anguish, renewed trust, and public exhortation, holding together the famous surrender of spirit into God's hands with the conviction that God's goodness is stored up for those who fear him.

Psalm 31 is a sustained prayer of refuge under pressure. It shows that trust in God does not erase grief, slander, or fear, but it does relocate a person's times, life, and future into the LORD's hands, ending in strong consolation for all who wait for him.

14But I trust in You, O LORD; 15My times are in Your hands; 16Make Your face shine on Your servant; 17O LORD, let me not be ashamed, 18May lying lips be silenced —

19How great is Your goodness 20You hide them in the secret place of Your presence 21Blessed be the LORD, 22In my alarm I said, 23Love the LORD, all His saints. 24Be strong and courageous,
