Chapter 27

The LORD Is My Salvation

This psalm begins in fearless confidence because the LORD is David's light, salvation, and stronghold, then centers itself on one consuming desire: to dwell in the LORD's house and seek his beauty. From that confidence it turns into urgent prayer against abandonment and hostile foes, yet closes in renewed certainty that David will see the LORD's goodness and in a call to wait courageously for him.

Psalm 27 holds together bold assurance and vulnerable supplication without tension. It shows that confidence in the LORD does not eliminate trouble or pleading, but it does anchor the soul in the beauty of God's presence and in patient hope for his goodness.

7Hear, O LORD, my voice when I call; 8My heart said, “Seek His face.” 9Hide not Your face from me, 10Though my father and mother forsake me, 11Teach me Your way, O LORD, 12Do not hand me over to the will of my foes,

13Still I am certain to see 14Wait patiently for the LORD;
