How Pleasant to Live in Harmony!
A1 song of ascents. Of David. 2It is like fine oil on the head, 3It is like the dew of Hermon
This psalm praises the goodness and beauty of brothers dwelling together in unity. It describes that unity through two descending images — precious oil running down Aaron's head and robes, and the dew of Hermon falling on Zion — and ends by saying that there, in such gathered blessing, the LORD has commanded life forevermore.
Within the Songs of Ascents, Psalm 133 offers a concentrated vision of communal life at its healthiest. It fits Book V by showing that the gathered people of God are not only protected, restored, or forgiven; they are also meant to live together in a harmony so life-giving that it can be compared only to consecrating oil and nourishing dew.
