Chapter 132

The LORD Has Chosen Zion

This psalm remembers David's zeal to find a dwelling place for the LORD and then sets that memory beside the LORD's own sworn promise to David. It moves from oath, ark, priests, and Zion to a divine answer in which Zion is chosen as God's resting place, David's line is upheld, the poor are fed, the priests are clothed with salvation, and a horn is made to grow for David while his enemies are shamed.

Within the Songs of Ascents, Psalm 132 is the great covenant psalm of Zion and David. It fits Book V by gathering temple, kingship, worship, and promise into one place, showing that the hope of Israel is not suspended on human devotion alone but answered and secured by the LORD's own oath concerning Zion and David's house.
