Psalms 133:1-3·~1 min

How Pleasant to Live in Harmony!

The psalm begins by celebrating how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell in unity, then unfolds that unity through two images of downward-flowing blessing: anointing oil on Aaron and dew upon Zion. The movement ends by locating the LORD's commanded blessing and enduring life precisely there, in the place of shared harmony.

A1 song of ascents. Of David. 2It is like fine oil on the head, 3It is like the dew of Hermon

Section summaryThe psalm opens by calling the unity of brothers both good and pleasant, then likens that unity to costly oil poured on Aaron and running downward, and to the dew of Hermon descending on the mountains of Zion. In both images, blessing comes from above and spreads outward, and the psalm closes by saying that in that place the LORD commands blessing and life forever.
Role in the chapterThis section functions as a hymn to communal harmony. It shows unity not as a thin social convenience, but as a sacred, refreshing gift in which consecration, fruitfulness, and enduring life come down from the LORD upon his gathered people.
