Jesus Appears to Thomas

Thomas, called Didymus, had not been with the disciples when Jesus came the first time to them there at all.

N24ow Thomas called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.

The other disciples tell Thomas that they have seen the Lord and speak from their shared sight to him there.

25So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

Eight days later, Jesus comes again while the disciples are inside with locked doors, and he greets them with peace.

26Eight days later, His disciples were once again inside with the doors locked, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

Jesus tells Thomas to touch his hands and side, stop doubting, and believe what the wounds show for himself there.

27Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe.”

Thomas answers with confession, naming Jesus as his Lord and God before him at last there.

28Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God!”

Jesus says that Thomas has believed because he saw him, and he blesses those who believe without seeing him.

29Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
