Psalms 28:1-9·~1 min

The LORD Is My Strength

David cries to the LORD as his rock and begs him not to be silent, because unanswered silence would leave him like those going down to the pit. He asks God to hear his plea for mercy as he lifts his hands toward the inner sanctuary.

O1f David. 2Hear my cry for mercy

David asks not to be swept away with the wicked, who speak peace while evil is in their hearts, and he calls for God to repay them according to their deeds. Their judgment is fitting because they disregard the LORD's works and what his hands have made, so he will tear them down rather than build them up.

3Do not drag me away with the wicked, 4Repay them according to their deeds 5Since they show no regard for the works of the LORD

The psalm turns abruptly to blessing because the LORD has heard the cry for mercy, becoming strength and shield for the trusting heart. David's personal gratitude then broadens into communal confidence that the LORD is strength for his people and saving refuge for his anointed, concluding with a prayer that God would save, bless, shepherd, and carry his inheritance forever.

6Blessed be the LORD, 7The LORD is my strength and my shield; 8The LORD is the strength of His people, 9Save Your people and bless Your inheritance;
