Trust in the LORD with All Your Heart
The son is told not to forget wise teaching but to keep it inwardly, since it brings long life and peace. He is also urged to bind love and faithfulness to himself, so that he finds favor with both God and man.
M1y son, do not forget my teaching, 2for they will add length to your days, 3Never let loving devotion or faithfulness leave you; 4Then you will find favor and high regard
The reader is commanded to trust in the LORD with all the heart, reject self-reliance, acknowledge God in every way, and turn from evil. Such reverent humility leads to straight paths and healing rather than self-inflicted ruin.
5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, 6in all your ways acknowledge Him, 7Be not wise in your own eyes; 8This will bring healing to your body
The LORD is to be honored with wealth and firstfruits, and this honoring is linked to overflowing provision. Material life is thus brought under worship rather than treated as independent from God.
9Honor the LORD with your wealth 10then your barns will be filled with plenty,
The son is warned not to despise the LORD's discipline or grow weary under correction, because such discipline is the action of a loving father. Hard providence is therefore interpreted through covenant love rather than abandonment.
11My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD, 12for the LORD disciplines the one He loves,
