The Feast of Weeks

On the day of firstfruits during the Feast of Weeks, Israel gathers in sacred assembly and ceases from regular work. Burnt offerings, grain offerings, a goat for atonement, and drink offerings are presented in addition to the regular burnt offering, with all animals required to be unblemished.

O26n the day of firstfruits, when you present an offering of new grain to the LORD during the Feast of Weeks, you are to hold a sacred assembly; you must not do any regular work. 27Present a burnt offering of two young bulls, one ram, and seven male lambs a year old as a pleasing aroma to the LORD, 28together with their grain offerings of fine flour mixed with oil— three-tenths of an ephah with each bull, two-tenths of an ephah with the ram, 29and a tenth of an ephah with each of the seven lambs. 30Include one male goat to make atonement for you. 31Offer them with their drink offerings in addition to the regular burnt offering and its grain offering. The animals must be unblemished.[’’]

Section summaryAt the Feast of Weeks, on the day of firstfruits, Israel holds a sacred assembly and offers new grain with the same pattern of bulls, ram, lambs, and a goat for atonement. The feast joins harvest gratitude to the regular order of sacrifice already in place.
Role in the chapterThis closing section rounds out the chapter’s spring festivals by linking firstfruits and harvest to worship. It shows that seasonal abundance, like daily time, is received and ordered before the LORD through sacrifice and assembly.
