Chapter 28

The Daily Offerings and more

Numbers 28 sets Israel’s worship into a steady calendar of offerings. The chapter moves from the daily burnt offering to Sabbath, monthly, Passover, and Feast of Weeks offerings, showing how ordinary days and appointed feasts alike are ordered around gifts presented to the LORD.

Within Numbers, this chapter begins a longer ordering of Israel’s festal worship as the people prepare to enter the land. After laws of inheritance and leadership, it turns to the regular offerings that will shape Israel’s shared life before God.

  1. 01vv. 1-8The Daily OfferingsThe LORD tells Moses to command Israel to present the regular daily burnt offering at its appointed times. Morning and twilight are marked by matching lambs, grain, and drink offerings, so each day begins and ends with a fixed gift before the LORD.
  2. 02vv. 9-10The Sabbath OfferingsEach Sabbath brings an additional burnt offering beyond the daily pattern. Two more lambs, with their grain and drink offerings, mark the day as distinct without replacing the regular sacrifice.
  3. 03vv. 11-15The Monthly OfferingsAt each new moon, Israel presents a larger monthly offering of bulls, a ram, lambs, grain, drink, and a sin offering. The beginning of each month is marked by abundance, while the regular daily offering still remains in place.
  4. 04vv. 16-25Passover and the Feast of Unleavened BreadThe first month brings Passover and the seven-day Feast of Unleavened Bread, with sacred assemblies at the beginning and end. Throughout the feast, Israel presents the same substantial offerings each day, including a sin offering, alongside the regular morning burnt offering.
  5. 05vv. 26-31The Feast of WeeksAt the Feast of Weeks, on the day of firstfruits, Israel holds a sacred assembly and offers new grain with the same pattern of bulls, ram, lambs, and a goat for atonement. The feast joins harvest gratitude to the regular order of sacrifice already in place.
