The South Gate

The south-facing gate on the outer court is measured and found to match the others in its side pillars, portico, windows, overall size, steps, and palm-tree decoration. The guide also measures from this south gateway to the inner-court gate and finds one hundred cubits, just as elsewhere.

T24hen he led me to the south side, and I saw a gateway facing south. He measured its side pillars and portico, and they had the same measurements as the others. 25Both the gateway and its portico had windows all around, like the other windows. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 26Seven steps led up to it, and its portico was opposite them; it had palm trees on its side pillars, one on each side. 27The inner court also had a gate facing south, and he measured the distance from gateway to gateway toward the south to be a hundred cubits.

Section summaryEzekiel is brought to the south side, where the south gate is measured. It matches the other outer gates in size and windowed portico, has palm-decorated pillars, and is reached by seven steps. Its corresponding inner-court gate also stands one hundred cubits away.
Role in the chapterThis section completes the triad of outer gates and preserves the pattern of measured harmony.
