Ezekiel 40:47-49·~1 min

The Inner Court

The man measures the inner court as a square one hundred cubits by one hundred cubits, with the altar set before the temple. He then measures the temple portico, including its side pillars, gateway width, sidewalls, overall width and depth, steps, and columns. The progression ends at the temple's front threshold, having moved Ezekiel from outer wall to inner approach.

N47ext he measured the court. It was square, a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide. And the altar was in front of the temple. 48Then he brought me to the portico of the temple and measured the side pillars of the portico to be five cubits on each side. The width of the gateway was fourteen cubits and its sidewalls were three cubits on either side. 49The portico was twenty cubits wide and twelve cubits deep, and ten steps led up to it. There were columns by the side pillars, one on each side.

Section summaryThe chapter closes with measurements of the square inner court, the altar set before the temple, and the temple portico itself. The portico's side pillars, width, depth, steps, and columns are all measured, completing the movement from outer boundary to the threshold of the temple house.
Role in the chapterThis section brings Ezekiel to the temple's immediate front and completes the opening architectural survey.
