Chapter 65

Praise Awaits God in Zion

This psalm gathers worship, forgiveness, answered prayer, creation's order, and harvest abundance into a single song of praise to the God who dwells in Zion. David blesses the God who receives prayer, atones for iniquity, and brings people near to enjoy the goodness of his house. From there the song widens to praise the one who answers with righteous deeds, stills seas and nations alike, and finally waters the earth so richly that hills, meadows, flocks, and valleys all seem to shout for joy.

Psalm 65 displays the breadth of God's kingship by holding together temple grace and world-sustaining providence. The God who forgives and welcomes worshipers is the same God who governs chaos, commands the nations, and crowns the year with bounty, making the whole creation a theater of his generosity and praise.
