Chapter 62

Waiting on God

This psalm is a calm but forceful meditation on silence, security, and true weight, as David fixes his soul on God alone as rock, salvation, refuge, and honor while enemies try to topple him with lies. He urges his own soul and then the gathered people to wait in quiet trust, exposes both human status and dishonest gain as vapor and false weight, and closes by resting in two unshakable truths: power belongs to God and steadfast love belongs to the Lord who repays each person according to his work.

Psalm 62 teaches single-hearted dependence in a world of unstable supports. It contrasts the solidity of God with the lightness of social rank, the vanity of wealth, and the duplicity of human plots, showing that true rest, dignity, and justice are found only in the God who is both powerful and faithful.
