Chapter 29

Ascribe Glory to the LORD

This psalm summons the heavenly beings to ascribe glory and strength to the LORD and worship him in holy splendor. It then traces the thunderous voice of the LORD across waters, forests, mountains, wilderness, and creatures, before ending with the vision of the LORD enthroned as king and the assurance that he gives strength and peace to his people.

Psalm 29 presents creation-shaking power as a revelation of the LORD's kingship. The same voice that overwhelms the natural world is not chaos for God's people but the source of strength and peace, so the psalm joins awe before divine majesty with confidence in covenant blessing.
