Chapter 24

The Earth Is the LORD’s

This psalm begins by declaring that the whole earth belongs to the LORD because he founded it, then asks who may ascend his holy hill and stand in his presence. It answers with the language of clean hands, pure heart, and true seeking, before rising into a liturgical summons for the gates to welcome the King of Glory, the LORD strong and mighty.

Psalm 24 binds creation, holiness, and kingship together in a single song. It teaches that the God who owns the world is also the one who defines purity for those who approach him, and that the climax of worship is the recognition that the victorious LORD himself comes as the true King of Glory.
