The LORD Is My Shepherd
A1 Psalm of David. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures; 3He restores my soul;
4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
5You prepare a table before me 6Surely goodness and mercy will follow me
This psalm confesses the LORD not merely as helper but as shepherd, host, guide, and the enduring home of the believer. From green pastures and restored soul, through the darkest valley, to a table spread in the presence of enemies, the chapter presents a life wholly secured by the LORD's personal care and steadfast goodness.
Psalm 23 is among the Psalter's clearest expressions of intimate covenant trust. It gathers provision, guidance, protection, honor, and final belonging into one compact song, teaching that the deepest security of God's people is not the absence of danger but the presence of the Shepherd who remains with them from beginning to end.
