The Blessed Fear of the LORD
A1 song of ascents. 2For when you eat the fruit of your labor, 3Your wife will be like a fruitful vine 4In this way indeed shall blessing come 5May the LORD bless you from Zion, 6that you may see
This psalm describes the blessed life of the one who fears the LORD and walks in his ways. That blessing appears in ordinary, durable goods: satisfying labor, fruitfulness at home, children gathered around the table, and the widening hope of seeing Jerusalem's prosperity and Israel's peace across generations.
Following Psalm 127, Psalm 128 stays with household life but changes the emphasis from the LORD as giver to the shape of the life that receives his blessing well. It fits the Songs of Ascents by showing that reverence for the LORD is not an inward feeling alone; it spills into work, family, Zion, and the hope of peace that stretches beyond one home to the whole people.
