Chapter 121

I Lift Up My Eyes to the Hills

This psalm answers the pilgrim's need with a calm confession: help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth. From there the chapter unfolds as a promise of constant keeping, insisting that the LORD neither sleeps nor drifts, but guards his people in exposure, travel, danger, and time itself.

After Psalm 120's unrest, Psalm 121 gives the Songs of Ascents an answering note of settled assurance. It fits Book V by turning the pilgrim's gaze away from threatening surroundings and toward the LORD's steady care, showing that ascent is sustained not by human vigilance but by divine keeping.
