The House on the Rock

Jesus likens the one who hears and acts on his words to a wise man who builds on rock. When rain, torrents, and winds strike, the house remains because its foundation holds. He then likens the one who hears but does not act to a foolish man who builds on sand, and that house falls in a great collapse.

T24herefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell— and great was its collapse!”

Section summaryJesus compares hearers who act on his words with a wise builder on rock, and hearers who do not act with a foolish builder on sand. Storms strike both houses, but only the house built on the rock stands.
