The Resurrection
Very early on the first day of the week, the women come to the tomb with the spices they had prepared.
O1n the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared.
They find the stone rolled away from the tomb.
2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,
They enter and do not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
As they puzzle over the empty tomb, two radiant men stand beside them.
4While they were puzzling over this, suddenly two men in radiant apparel stood beside them.
The men ask why they are seeking the living among the dead.
5As the women bowed their faces to the ground in terror, the two men asked them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
They announce that Jesus is not there because he has risen, and they tell the women to remember his words from Galilee.
6He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you while He was still in Galilee:
They recall that the Son of Man would be handed over, crucified, and raised on the third day.
7‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.’ ”
The women remember his words.
8Then they remembered His words.
They return from the tomb and report everything to the Eleven and the others.
9And when they returned from the tomb, they reported all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.
Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women speak these things to the apostles.
10It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles.
The apostles treat the women’s words as nonsense and do not believe them.
11But their words seemed like nonsense to them, and they did not believe the women.
Peter runs to the tomb, sees only the linen cloths, and leaves wondering what has happened.
12Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. And after bending down and seeing only the linen cloths, he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
