Jesus Heals a Man with Dropsy
Jesus eats in the house of a leading Pharisee on the Sabbath while the guests watch him closely, and a man with dropsy stands before him.
O1ne Sabbath, Jesus went to eat in the home of a leading Pharisee, and those in attendance were watching Him closely. 2Right there before Him was a man with dropsy.
Jesus asks the experts in the law and the Pharisees whether healing is lawful on the Sabbath.
3So Jesus asked the experts in the law and the Pharisees, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”
The legal experts and Pharisees remain silent.
4But they remained silent.
Jesus takes hold of the man, heals him, and sends him away, then asks whether they would not pull a son or ox from a pit on the Sabbath.
5Then Jesus took hold of the man, healed him, and sent him on his way. And He asked them, “Which of you whose son or ox falls into a pit on the Sabbath day will not immediately pull him out?”
They cannot answer him.
6And they were unable to answer these questions.
