Issachar’s Inheritance
The fourth lot assigns Issachar a territory marked by named towns and a border that ends at the Jordan, then concludes with the usual statement of inheritance.
T17he fourth lot came out for the clans of the tribe of Issachar: 18Their territory included Jezreel, Chesulloth, Shunem, 19Hapharaim, Shion, Anaharath, 20Rabbith, Kishion, Ebez, 21Remeth, En-gannim, En-haddah, and Beth-pazzez. 22The border reached Tabor, Shahazumah, and Beth-shemesh, and ended at the Jordan. There were sixteen cities, along with their villages. 23This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Issachar, including these cities and their villages.
Section summaryIssachar’s allotment is given through a list of towns spread across its territory, then through a border that reaches Tabor, Shahazumah, Beth-shemesh, and the Jordan. The section closes by naming the whole as the inheritance of Issachar’s clans.
Role in the chapterThis section continues the sequence of final tribal distributions, giving Issachar a settled place in the land. Its brief, measured form keeps the chapter moving through the remaining tribes toward completion.
