Judgment on Kedar and Hazor

The oracle addresses Kedar and Hazor, already marked for attack by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. The invaders are told to ascend and plunder the tents, flocks, curtains, vessels, and camels of these people while cries of 'Terror on every side!' accompany the assault. Hazor's inhabitants are urged to flee deep, yet the nation that thought itself secure, dwelling apart without gates or bars, will still be scattered to every wind. Their wealth becomes spoil, calamity comes from every side, and Hazor is left a permanent wasteland inhabited only by jackals.

C28oncerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated, this is what the LORD says: 29They will take their tents and flocks, 30Run! Escape quickly! 31Rise up, advance against a nation at ease, 32Their camels will become plunder, 33“Hazor will become a haunt for jackals,

Section summaryThe LORD turns next to Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, desert peoples struck by Nebuchadnezzar. Babylon is summoned to rise against this secure, unwalled, isolated nation. Their tents, flocks, curtains, and camels will become spoil, panic will sound on every side, and those who dwell deep in Hazor are urged to flee. Hazor will become a haunt of jackals, desolate forever and uninhabited.
Role in the chapterThis section shows that even mobile desert communities and remote settlements are not beyond the reach of Babylon or the LORD's decree.
