Isaiah

Chapter 65

Judgments and Promises and A New Heaven and a New Earth

Isaiah 65 presents the LORD's response to stubborn rebellion by contrasting His openness to those who did not seek Him with His patient but rejected appeal to a provocative people devoted to idolatry, pride, and self-made religion. Yet judgment is not the whole story: the chapter preserves a remnant for blessing, sharply distinguishes the future of God's servants from that of His enemies, and then opens out into the joy of a new creation where Jerusalem is cause for rejoicing, life is secure, labor is fruitful, communion with God is immediate, and creation itself lives under restored peace.

This chapter matters because it refuses both presumption and despair: God will judge persistent rebellion, but He will not abandon His purpose to bless His servants and renew His world. Isaiah 65 joins election, remnant mercy, servant identity, and new-creation hope into a sweeping answer to the prayer of chapter 64, showing that the future belongs not to the rebellious but to those the LORD re-creates for joy.

1I revealed Myself to those who did not ask for Me; 2All day long I have held out My hands 3to a people who continually provoke Me to My face, 4sitting among the graves, 5They say, ‘Keep to yourself; 6Behold, it is written before Me: 7both for your iniquities

8This is what the LORD says: 9And I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, 10Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, 11But you who forsake the LORD, 12I will destine you for the sword,

13Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: 14My servants will shout for joy with a glad heart, 15You will leave behind your name 16Whoever invokes a blessing in the land
