Zion’s Salvation and New Name

For Zion's sake the speaker refuses silence until her righteousness shines and her salvation blazes openly, drawing the attention of nations and kings. Zion receives a new name from the LORD, becomes a crown of beauty in His hand, and is no longer called Forsaken or Desolate but Hephzibah and Beulah, because the LORD delights in her and rejoices over her like a bridegroom over his bride.

F1or Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, 2Nations will see your righteousness, 3You will be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, 4No longer will you be called Forsaken, 5For as a young man marries a young woman,

Watchmen are stationed on Jerusalem's walls and commanded never to be silent, continually reminding the LORD and giving Him no rest until He establishes the city as a praise in the earth. In answer to that persistent hope, the LORD swears by His own strength that Zion's grain and wine will no longer feed her enemies, but those who gather and harvest will enjoy them in the courts of His holiness.

6On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen; 7nor give Him any rest 8The LORD has sworn by His right hand 9For those who harvest grain

The chapter closes with a command to prepare the highway, clear the stones, and lift up a banner for the peoples as the LORD proclaims salvation to the end of the earth. Zion's reward and recompense arrive with Him, and the city's people are publicly named the Holy People, the Redeemed of the LORD, while Jerusalem herself becomes Sought Out and no longer Forsaken.

10Go out, go out through the gates; 11Behold, the LORD has proclaimed 12And they will be called the Holy People,

Section summaryThe chapter's single movement begins with an unyielding resolve not to keep silent until Zion's righteousness and salvation blaze before the nations, who will then see her glory and call her by a new name given by the LORD. It goes on to describe Jerusalem as a crown in God's hand and a bride in whom He delights, to station watchmen on her walls who give the LORD no rest until He establishes her, to swear that her produce will no longer be plundered by enemies, and finally to issue a worldwide proclamation that salvation is coming and that Zion will be called the Holy People, the Redeemed of the LORD, and a city no longer abandoned.
Role in the chapterThis section gathers divine zeal, intercessory vigilance, covenant delight, and final public recognition into one sustained vision of Zion's vindicated future.
