Future Glory for Zion
Zion is commanded to arise and shine because her light has come and the glory of the LORD has risen upon her, even while darkness still covers the earth and its peoples. That divine radiance draws nations and kings, gathers back sons and daughters from afar, and fills Zion with astonished joy as the abundance of the sea and the wealth of nations begin to turn toward her.
A1rise, shine, for your light has come, 2For behold, darkness covers the earth, 3Nations will come to your light, 4Lift up your eyes and look around: 5Then you will look and be radiant,
The vision expands as camels, flocks, ships, and distant coastlands arrive carrying gold, incense, sons, and resources for the beautifying of Zion and the praise of the LORD. Foreigners rebuild her walls, kings serve her, nations that refuse this order perish, and even the children of former oppressors bow at her feet, confessing that this once-abandoned city is now the city of the LORD, the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
6Caravans of camels will cover your land, 7All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered to you; 8Who are these who fly like clouds, 9Surely the islands will wait for Me, 10Foreigners will rebuild your walls, 11Your gates will always stand open; 12For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; 13The glory of Lebanon will come to you— 14The sons of your oppressors
Where Zion was once forsaken and hated, she becomes an everlasting pride nourished by the nations and secured by the LORD as Savior and Redeemer. Her materials are upgraded, her governors are peace and righteousness, violence disappears, her walls and gates are named for salvation and praise, and even sun and moon become unnecessary because the LORD Himself is her everlasting light, ensuring a wholly righteous people and a suddenly multiplied future that He will accomplish in His time.
15Whereas you have been forsaken and despised, 16You will drink the milk of nations 17Instead of bronze I will bring you gold; 18No longer will violence be heard in your land, 19No longer will the sun be your light by day, 20Your sun will no longer set, 21Then all your people will be righteous; 22The least of you will become a thousand,
