Serving with Honor

Paul tells slaves to obey earthly masters not merely by outward eye-service, but with sincerity and fear of the Lord, doing all things heartily for the Lord and not for people. The reason is that the true inheritance and reward come from the Lord Christ, while wrongdoing will be repaid without favoritism.

S22laves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with sincerity of heart and fear of the Lord. 23Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, as for the Lord and not for men, 24because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25Whoever does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.

Section summaryPaul tells slaves to obey earthly masters sincerely and wholeheartedly as serving the Lord Christ rather than only pleasing human watchers. Their work is to be done from the soul because the Lord himself gives the true inheritance and repays wrongdoing without partiality.
