Colossians

Colossians is a concentrated declaration of Christ's supremacy and sufficiency over creation, the church, salvation, wisdom, and every rival claim on the believer's life. Paul moves from thanksgiving and prayer into the greatness of the Son, the revealed mystery of Christ among the Gentiles, and a sustained warning against human tradition, false spirituality, legal shadows, and self-made religion. From there the letter turns to the new life of those raised with Christ, pressing its implications into holiness, love, households, prayer, witness, and steadfast fellowship.

Within Paul's letters, Colossians gives one of the New Testament's clearest answers to every attempt to supplement Christ. Its place is to insist that the church's fullness, freedom, growth, and practical holiness all flow from remaining rooted in the crucified and risen Lord who is preeminent in all things.
