The Temple of the Holy Spirit

Paul tells them to flee sexual immorality, saying that this sin uniquely involves the body itself. He reminds them that their body is a temple of the Holy Spirit given by God and that they are not their own, because they were bought at a price, and so they must glorify God with their body.

F18lee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.

Section summaryPaul closes by commanding flight from sexual immorality and by naming the body as the temple of the Holy Spirit, received from God. Because believers are not their own but have been bought at a price, the only fitting response is to glorify God with the body.
