The Descendants of Benjamin

Benjamin’s three sons are named, and the lines of Bela and Becher begin to unfold through their descendants. The section sets out the main branches before giving their totals.

T6he three sons of Benjamin: 7The sons of Bela: 8The sons of Becher:

Becher’s and Jediael’s descendants are counted as mighty men fit for battle, and additional clan groups are named at the end. The genealogy joins household leadership, military readiness, and related family identity.

Their genealogies were recorded according to the heads of their families— 20,200 mighty men of valor. 10The son of Jediael: 11Jeush, Benjamin, Ehud, Chenaanah, Zethan, Tarshish, and Ahishahar. All these sons of Jediael were heads of their families, mighty men of valor; there were 17,200 fit for battle. 12The Shuppites and Huppites were descendants of Ir, and the Hushites were descendants of Aher.

Section summaryBenjamin’s lines are traced through Bela, Becher, and Jediael, with their family heads and troop numbers carefully counted. The section ends by noting related clan groups whose place is tied to the same genealogical frame.
Role in the chapterThis section extends the chapter’s pattern of naming branches, chiefs, and warriors. It gives Benjamin a structured place in the tribal register before the genealogy moves on.
