The War in Heaven
A war arises in heaven between Michael and his angels and the dragon with his angels. The dragon proves unable to prevail, and no place remains for him in heaven. He is hurled down to the earth, identified explicitly as the ancient serpent, the devil, Satan, and the deceiver of the whole world. The paragraph reveals the dragon's defeat and public expulsion from the heavenly realm.

He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
A loud voice in heaven announces that salvation, power, kingdom, and the authority of God's Christ have come because the accuser has been cast down. The saints overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, not clinging to life even unto death. Therefore heaven is called to rejoice, while the earth is warned that the devil has come down in great fury because he knows his time is short. The paragraph interprets the heavenly war as a victory already secured through the Lamb and shared by His witnesses.
