Chapter 98

Sing to the LORD a New Song

This psalm calls for a new song because the LORD has acted in saving power, remembering his steadfast love and faithfulness before the eyes of the nations. Israel's deliverance becomes the reason for worldwide rejoicing, as instruments, shouting, and the whole created order are summoned to celebrate. The psalm ends with creation exulting because the LORD comes to judge the earth with righteousness and equity.

Psalm 98 is a salvation-and-enthronement psalm. It links God's covenant faithfulness to Israel with the universal hope of his just rule, showing that redemption naturally expands into worldwide praise and joyful expectation of judgment.
