Send Out Your Light
V1indicate me, O God, and plead my case 2For You are the God of my refuge.
3Send out Your light and Your truth; 4Then I will go to the altar of God,
5Why are you downcast, O my soul?
This psalm continues the cry of Psalm 42 by asking God to vindicate the singer against an ungodly and deceitful enemy while wrestling with the pain of feeling cast off. Yet the prayer does not end in complaint: the psalmist asks God to send forth light and truth as guides back to the holy hill, envisions renewed joy at the altar, and closes by repeating the refrain that summons the downcast soul to hope in God for coming praise.
Psalm 43 is a compact prayer of return, guidance, and self-exhortation. It teaches that when refuge feels hidden and injustice presses in, the faithful do not merely ask for relief but for divine leading back into God's presence, where sorrow is reordered by worship and hope is spoken again to the soul.
