Chapter 2

The Triumphant Messiah

The psalm looks out from Israel toward the nations and sees rulers gathering in revolt against the LORD and his Anointed, only to find their rebellion swallowed by divine laughter and decree. What begins as political resistance ends as a universal summons: the enthroned King will rule the nations, so kings and judges must abandon defiance and take refuge in the Son while mercy is still offered.

Placed just after Psalm 1, this chapter widens the horizon from the individual way of righteousness to the public rule of God's chosen King. It becomes one of the Psalter's foundational royal and messianic texts, joining warning, promise, and refuge in a way that echoes through the rest of scripture.
