Chapter 145

I Will Exalt You, My God and King

David exalts the LORD as his God and King and commits himself to daily praise without end, because the greatness of the LORD is beyond searching out. From there the psalm widens into a many-voiced hymn in which generations recount God's mighty works, all creation blesses him, his everlasting kingdom is declared, he upholds the falling and feeds every living thing, and he is near to those who call on him, preserving those who love him while destroying the wicked.

After Psalm 144 ends with the blessedness of a people whose God is the LORD, Psalm 145 turns that blessedness into sustained praise. It fits Book V as a hinge into the closing hallelujah movement: the themes of kingship, goodness, provision, righteousness, and universal praise gather here into a full portrait of the LORD whose rule is everlasting and whose care reaches from generations to every living creature.
