Chapter 141

Come Quickly to Me

David calls urgently on the LORD to come quickly and receive his prayer like evening incense and lifted hands. He asks not only for protection from the snares of the wicked but also for a guarded mouth and a heart that will not drift into evil companionship, receives the rebuke of the righteous as kindness, and ends by fixing his eyes on the Lord GOD until the wicked fall into their own nets while he passes by safely.

Psalm 141 follows Psalm 140 by continuing the cry for protection, but it deepens the prayer inwardly. Instead of asking only to be rescued from hostile people, David asks to be kept from becoming like them, so the psalm fits Book V as a prayer where danger, worship, self-watchfulness, and trust in God's reversal all meet in one voice.

A1 Psalm of David. 2May my prayer be set before You like incense;

3Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; 4Do not let my heart be drawn to any evil thing 5Let the righteous man strike me;

6When their rulers are thrown down from the cliffs, 7As when one plows and breaks up the soil,

8But my eyes are fixed on You, 9Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets,
