The mocker rejects correction and returns hatred, while the wise receive reproof and grow wiser still. The section culminates in declaring that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and that each person's response to wisdom finally benefits or harms that person most directly.

Section summaryWisdom is portrayed as a gracious hostess who has built, prepared, and openly announced her feast, inviting the simple to leave immaturity and walk in insight. Role in the chapterThis section functions as the positive invitation of the chapter. Its work is to show that wisdom is both generously offered and morally discriminating, because only the teachable receive correction, learn from it, and enter the life that begins in reverence for God.
