The Defeat of Og

Israel lives in Amorite territory, and after Moses sends spies to Jazer, they capture its villages and drive out the Amorites there.

S31o Israel lived in the land of the Amorites. 32After Moses had sent spies to Jazer, Israel captured its villages and drove out the Amorites who were there.

Og of Bashan comes out with his whole army to fight at Edrei, but the LORD tells Moses not to fear because the land is already given. Israel defeats Og completely and takes possession of his land.

33Then they turned and went up the road to Bashan, and Og king of Bashan and his whole army came out to meet them in battle at Edrei. 34But the LORD said to Moses, “Do not fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, along with all his people and his land. Do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon.” 35So they struck down Og, along with his sons and his whole army, until no remnant was left. And they took possession of his land.

Section summaryAfter settling in Amorite land and taking Jazer, Israel turns toward Bashan, where Og comes out to meet them in battle. The LORD tells Moses not to fear, and Israel strikes Og down and takes his land as they did with Sihon.
Role in the chapterThis final section confirms that the victory over Sihon is not isolated. It closes the chapter with repeated conquest under the LORD’s assurance, strengthening the sense that Israel is now moving into possession rather than wandering.
