Jeremiah 6:22-30·~1 min

An Invasion from the North

A great people from the far north is described with bow, spear, and roaring force, advancing against daughter Zion without pity. The report leaves Jerusalem weak and trembling, and daughter Zion is told to mourn like one grieving an only son because destruction is suddenly at hand.

T22his is what the LORD says: 23They grasp the bow and spear; 24We have heard the report; 25Do not go out to the fields; 26O daughter of my people,

Jeremiah is appointed to test the people like ore, but what he finds is hard rebellion, slander, and corruption like bronze and iron. The refining bellows burn and the lead is consumed, yet the wicked are not purged, so the people are left to be called rejected silver because the LORD has rejected them.

Section summaryThe final section gives the invader a clearer face: a cruel people from the north armed for war and advancing like the sea. Jerusalem's terror becomes lament, but even the refining fire fails to separate corruption from the people, so they are finally named rejected silver that the LORD has refused.
Role in the chapterThis section closes the chapter by turning warning into arrival and diagnosis into verdict. It shows that the problem is not merely external threat but inward corruption so deep that the usual work of purification no longer succeeds.
