Jeremiah

Chapter 2

Israel Has Forsaken God and more

Jeremiah 2 recalls Israel's early devotion to the LORD and then sets that memory against the nation's present betrayal. The chapter moves through the abandonment of the living God, the self-inflicted consequences of that turning, and a long closing exposure of Judah's denial, idol-chasing, and failed search for security elsewhere.

Coming straight after Jeremiah's call, this chapter gives the substance of the message he is sent to proclaim. It introduces the book's sustained pattern of covenant memory, accusation, and warning by showing that Judah's crisis grows out of a deep refusal to remain with the God who brought her up.
