A Call to Fear God

The LORD seizes Isaiah's attention and commands him not to echo the people's cries of conspiracy or share their dread. The only right fear is the LORD of Hosts Himself; for those who trust Him He is a sanctuary, but for those who refuse Him He becomes a stone that trips both houses of Israel, a trap that sends many into ruin.

F11or this is what the LORD has spoken to me with a strong hand, instructing me not to walk in the way of this people: 12“Do not call conspiracy 13The LORD of Hosts is the One 14And He will be a sanctuary — 15Many will stumble over these;

Isaiah is told to bind up the testimony and seal the teaching among disciples, preserving revelation for a faithful circle while the nation hardens. He therefore chooses to wait for the LORD who has hidden His face from Jacob, standing with the children God has given him as visible signs and symbols from the LORD of Hosts who dwells on Mount Zion.

16Bind up the testimony 17I will wait for the LORD, 18Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me as signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD of Hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.

Section summaryWith a strong hand the LORD warns Isaiah not to adopt the people's fearful mindset or their obsession with conspiracies. Role in the chapterThis section contrasts public panic with covenant fear and defines faithful discipleship as waiting on God's word.
