Future Blessings for Zion
The barren woman is commanded to sing and shout because the desolate one will have more children than the married woman. Her tent is to be enlarged without restraint, because her descendants will spread out to right and left, inherit nations, and repopulate formerly desolate cities.
“1Shout for joy, O barren woman, 2“Enlarge the site of your tent, 3For you will spread out to the right and left;
Zion is told not to fear shame any longer, because her husband is her Maker, the Holy One of Israel, and the God of the whole earth. Though she was once like a forsaken wife and was hidden from in brief anger, the LORD now pledges everlasting compassion, swearing as in the days of Noah that while mountains may move, His covenant of peace and steadfast love will not depart from her.
4Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame; 5For your husband is your Maker — 6For the LORD has called you back, 7“For a brief moment I forsook you, 8In a surge of anger 9“For to Me this is like the days of Noah, 10Though the mountains may be removed
The afflicted, storm-tossed city is promised rebuilding with precious stones and radiant foundations, while her children are taught by the LORD and enjoy great peace. Established in righteousness, Zion will live far from oppression and terror; even if enemies gather, they do so without divine sanction, and because the LORD rules both the maker of weapons and the destroyer, no weapon formed against His servants and no condemning tongue will stand.
11“O afflicted city, lashed by storms, 12I will make your pinnacles of rubies, 13Then all your sons will be taught by the LORD, 14In righteousness you will be established, 15If anyone attacks you, it is not from Me; 16Behold, I have created the craftsman 17No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
