Deliverance for Jerusalem

Jerusalem is told to awake, dress herself in strength and beautiful garments, and rise from the dust because her humiliation is ending and the unclean will no longer overrun the holy city. The LORD explains that His people were sold for nothing and will therefore be redeemed without payment; just as they had been oppressed in Egypt and later by Assyria, so now the nations that mock them and blaspheme God's name will learn that His people belong to the One who says, 'Here I am.'

A1wake, awake, 2Shake off your dust! 3For this is what the LORD says: 4For this is what the Lord GOD says: 5And now what have I here? 6Therefore My people will know My name;

The chapter then celebrates the arrival of the messenger whose feet are beautiful on the mountains because he brings good news of peace, happiness, salvation, and the proclamation that Zion's God reigns. Watchmen join in joyful song, waste places break forth in singing, and the LORD bares His holy arm before all nations so that Jerusalem's comfort and redemption become visible to the ends of the earth.

7How beautiful on the mountains 8Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices, 9Break forth in joy, sing together, 10The LORD has bared His holy arm

Those who carry the vessels of the LORD are commanded to depart from Babylonic uncleanness and leave in purity, yet not in panic. Unlike a frantic escape, this departure will unfold under ordered divine escort, because the LORD goes before His people and the God of Israel guards their rear.

11Depart, depart, go out from there! 12For you will not leave in a hurry

The LORD explains that His people were taken for nothing and will be redeemed without money, announces that they will know His name when He comes to save, celebrates the good news proclaimed on the mountains, and commands the departing servants of the LORD to leave impurity behind as they go out under His protecting lead and rear guard.
