Israel’s Only Savior
The LORD addresses Jacob tenderly yet authoritatively as the one He created, formed, redeemed, and called by name, commanding them not to fear because they belong to Him. His presence is promised through overwhelming waters and consuming fire, and the reason given is deeply covenantal: He is their God and Savior, and because they are precious, honored, and loved in His sight, He gives nations in exchange for them.
B1ut now, this is what the LORD says— 2When you pass through the waters, 3For I am the LORD your God, 4Because you are precious and honored in My sight,
The command not to fear is repeated and expanded into a promise of worldwide regathering. From east and west, north and south, God will summon back His sons and daughters from afar, everyone called by His name, because they were created, formed, and made for His glory.
5Do not be afraid, for I am with you; 6I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ 7everyone called by My name and created for My glory,
Blind yet seeing people are brought out, and the nations are gathered into a courtroom where they are challenged to produce witnesses for their claims. In contrast, Israel is declared to be the LORD's witness and chosen servant, appointed to know and believe that He alone is God; no other savior exists, He alone has declared and saved, and no one can snatch from His hand or reverse what He does.
8Bring out a people who have eyes but are blind, 9All the nations gather together 10“You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, 11I, yes I, am the LORD, 12I alone decreed and saved and proclaimed— 13Even from eternity I am He,
