Isaiah 4:1-6·~1 min

A Remnant in Zion

The chapter opens with seven women taking hold of one man, willing to provide their own food and clothing if only they may bear his name and remove their reproach. The verse shows the severe social aftermath of judgment, where loss of men and honor leaves shame and desperation in its wake.

I1n that day seven women

Against that backdrop Isaiah speaks of the day when the Branch of the LORD will be beautiful and glorious and the land's fruit will be the pride of Israel's survivors. Those who remain in Zion will be called holy, because the Lord will have washed away filth and bloodguilt by a spirit of judgment and burning, turning survival into consecration.

2On that day the Branch of the LORD 3Whoever remains in Zion 4when the Lord has washed away

The LORD promises to create over Mount Zion and its assemblies a cloud by day and flaming fire by night, echoing His wilderness presence with Israel. Over all the glory there will be a canopy, and Zion will have shade, refuge, and shelter from heat, storm, and rain, presenting the future city as a place guarded by God's own presence.

5Then the LORD will create over all of Mount Zion 6a shelter to give shade
