Seth and Enosh

Eve bears Seth as another offspring in place of Abel, and Seth later fathers Enosh. In Enosh’s days, people begin to call on the name of the LORD.

A25nd Adam again had relations with his wife, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, “God has granted me another seed in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.” 26And to Seth also a son was born, and he called him Enosh.

Section summaryAdam and Eve have Seth in place of Abel, and the line continues through the birth of Enosh. With Enosh, the chapter closes not on violence but on the beginning of calling on the name of the LORD.
Role in the chapterThis brief ending provides the chapter’s counterweight to Cain’s line. It reopens the future through another seed and turns the final note toward worship rather than revenge.
