Sons through Faith in Christ

Paul says that through faith in Christ Jesus all are sons of God, and that baptism into Christ is a clothing with Christ himself. In him the old divisions no longer determine status, and belonging to Christ means belonging also to Abraham's seed and to the inheritance promised through him.

Y26ou are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

Section summaryPaul says that through faith in Christ Jesus all are sons of God, clothed with Christ in baptism and gathered into a unity that overtakes the old divisions of Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female. Belonging to Christ means belonging to Abraham's seed as well, and therefore sharing in the inheritance promised from the beginning.
Role in the chapterThis closing section gathers the chapter's argument into identity. It shows what justification by faith creates: a people united in Christ and named as heirs of Abraham's promise.
